All the way from up north I had this pretty young girl for a shoot this morning. We had planned to do some natural light shots but it was sooooo cold! It is was like minus 8 degrees and a really cold wind so after like 5 minutes we were both popsicles.

Silver effects by Nik Software

Upon a recommendation of my friend Theresia Pauls  I downloaded a demo version of Nik Software.

I like the frames and its ease of use. For its black and white conversion - well I custom make it according to every picture though  - and cant be bothered fiddling around with it to figure it out for the trial period.

But one thing I quite like about it is these frames ! Quick and easy way to add a bit of a different look - will I spend over a 100 dollars on it -- nah...

Pretty as a portrait

So every time I do a group shoot I try to fit in a portrait shot too. I figure since they are there, paying me to photograph them, they might as well get a nice picture of just themselves too... You never know when you are short of a gift to mom you know...

Lille Lilly !

I dag var jeg så heldig at jeg fikk fotografere lille Lilly, datteren til barndomsvenninnen min Linn Karin.

Her er et kjapt bilde av henne, -- er hjemme på familiebesøk så jeg klarer ikke lure meg bort lenge for å redigere bilder... Men ett måtte jeg jo klare... :)

Adorable Scotsman and his baby!

So when I was going to meet with Mr & Mrs Jardine I was kinda wanting to say no to the shoot or price them out of wanting me. Working full time in a job that at the moment is super busy its hard to have time for photography.

But then I met them...

They were just SUPER LOVELY!

So I took on the job and I will probably end up charging them next to nothing just cause they were so nice ... Not very good for my wallet but look at this face:

I asked him if he had planned it by picking a tie to match his eyes and he looked at me like I was crazy :P

Reality of photographing babies

It's always a challenge to photograph people you have just met, but when it come to photographing babies, its a whole different story. Babies SCREAM! They CRY! They POOP! 

Doesn't matter where the baby is, it does what it does and its everyone else's problem. Mothers can't threaten, can't yell, it simply won't matter. Doesn't matter if they are paying you as the photographer by the hour, its all irrelevant. You can try to time it, but yes, lots of things can go wrong. 

On Friday night, amidst the hustle and bustle of organizing their sons baptism, this lovely couple comes in for a quick couple of photos, so that the day could be shared with family that was far far away. (The couple is Scottish and Filipino  - living in Norway. ) 

But as you can see Daniel was not too cooperative!

A photographer's home = studio

Villa 14 is our home. Its the cutest little house with croocked walls and unlevelled floors. We have just started the process of renovating it to suit our tastes and our personality.

Inspired by this picture we decided to go with a black feature wall in our bedroom. Its bold and different but we decided we wanted something a bit different than the pure white. 

Its Jotun Lady Pure Color Dempet Sort - Super Matt Black Color. 

The room is still a construction zone but you can see how it turned out in the below picture. 

Because of course, - my home doubles as a studio :)

I think the matt black wall looks pretty awesome.. 

Sort hvitt er så vakkert!

Sort hvitt bilder er klassisk og bare kjempe lekkert. 

Ikke bare det men noen ganger er det nesten som om portrettet får WOW faktor ved å bli omgjort til sort-hvitt. 

To you photographers out there - I generally use lightroom for black and white conversion due to its many presets and great high contrasts black and white. 

Sharing someone's special day

I was going through my lightroom archive today and found this old photo. Its from one of the first weddings I shot. And it was one of those beautiful, perfect weddings. Planned and executed and just perfected. Seeing that old photograph made me think...

There is something amazing about being a wedding photographer... To be honest the thought of shooting a wedding kinda made me want to hurl and I thanked no to any wedding photography jobs.

But then something changed. Perhaps it was meeting my husband... Perhaps it was the first wedding I shot.

Tears were swelling up in my eyes as I realized I was there on a very important mission on their really really special day. Their wedding day... I quickly realised I had to dry my tears and start focusing, because teary eyed photographers never get anything in focus ! Because you can't screw up on someones wedding day!
