How can birds stay in a frozen pond?

Every morning I go past Breiavatmet in Stavanger . It's always full of birds; ducks, seagulls, swans and other ya know,/ birds!

Today half the lake is frozen,- and where r the birds? In the middle- in the frozen part!!!

Brrrrr!
